We have good news! More taxpayers are getting refunds for taxes previously withheld from their employment income earned in 2020. The IRS recently sent another batch of refunds to nearly 4 million people last week. Direct deposits were made on July 14 while paper checks were mailed on July 16. In May, the IRS started sending refunds to taxpayers who received unemployment benefits in 2020 and paid taxes on them prior to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) went into effect. That law waived taxes up to $10,200 of unemployment income for individuals earning less than $150,000 a year.
